Review: Does PaMu Slide Is a Scam?

A few months back, we first heard about the Pamu Slide. These were some highly-anticipated earbuds, which came from the same company that brought us the Padmate, some of the best wireless earbuds on the market. To put it mildly, the Slide did not live up to expectations. What went wrong? We’re about to take a closer look, and find out.

But to judge these earbuds fairly, we first need to establish what they were designed to do. First, they’re supposed to stay in your ears even when you’re physically active. This is something we’d expect from any pair of earbuds, but some buds are stickier than others, and the Slide was touted for its reliability. Secondly, the Pamu Slide is designed to maintain a long battery life, for minimal down time. With 10 hours of battery life in stereo, they’ve certainly achieved their goals in this regard.

But there are other features that are just as important for a good pair of earbuds. Reliability, audio quality, and the be-all and end-all of all companies, customer service. And in many of these areas, the Pamu Slide hasn’t just disappointed. It’s been downright awful. As a result, we’ve decided to write this review, taking into account all of the Slide’s post-launch failures. Let’s get started!

Design & Construction

The Slide gets its name from the unique charging case. While most earbud charging cases have a clamshell design, the Slide’s case slides open like a patio door. This is neither a good thing nor a bad thing, but it’s a neat marketing gimmick, and the case itself is well constructed. The bulk of the design is manufactured from ABS plastic, but it has a rigid internal aluminum frame for added strength, and the top of the lid has aluminum accents. The earbud charging wells are magnetic, which allows for easy retention when the earbuds are inserted. Pop them in, turn the case over, and shake it. It doesn’t matter. They’re going to stay in place. At least in theory.

PadMate PaMu Slide Earbuds Showcases

PadMate is at CES 2020 featuring the PaMu Slide earbuds. House in a case that looks like a mini speaker, the earbuds now have an Apple Airpods-like design (only slightly bulkier with a shorter stem, as one reviewer observed); the case includes a USB cable, an instruction manual and a selection of bud covers of different sizes. The charging case for the + version doubles as a phone powerbank-place a paired phone on its base and in no time you’re back at full power for 10.5 hours before another charge is necessary. A full charge takes less than an hour.

Connect to your device via Bluetooth and you’re in business. The buds charge individually in the case, with their progress indicated by LED lights. Place the buds in your ears, tap the button located on the side and start the music. Different control options are available on the buds.

The buds charge individually in the case, with tiny LED lights showing their status. Once removed and placed into your ears, tap the button on the side of one of the buds and you’re ready to play music. Each bud has different control options. Tap the left one once to play or pause, and twice to activate the voice assistant. When paired with a phone, one click answers a call. To decrease volume, a long press on the left touch button does the job, whereas the same move on the right increases the volume. Double-click the right bud to skip a track.

Product Review: PaMu Slide Earphones

I was recently asked to review a new entry in the immensely crowded headphone space, this one called the PaMu Slide.  After learning more about these bluetooth earbuds, I was eager to find out how good they were and so I agreed to check them out.  Being someone that is always listening to music, the main issue I have always had with wireless bluetooth earbuds is the amount of hours you can use them without charging and the audio quality.  With the PaMu Slide earphones, both of those problems are solved.

First let me say the packaging is really innovative.  Both earbuds rest and charge in the carrying case that slides open (hence the name).  The case is bigger than the Airpods case so it doesn’t fit easily in your pocket.  However, they last for 10 hours before needing to charge, so you can comfortably leave the case at home or the car and go.  The other unique feature with the case is you can flip it over and rest your phone on the case to wirelessly charge.

PaMu Scroll Review: No Wires, No Gain

The PaMu Scroll are among the latest earphones to join the “true wireless” craze, and they also came to life thanks to a crowdfunding campaign. Their manufacturer, Padmate, is a name that’s been around for a while now, but has only manufactured products for other brands (as it is/was an ODM, as they’re called). The PaMu Scroll are among their first efforts under their own brand. Alas, it’s not a convincing one, as far as sound quality is concerned.

Disclaimer: I would like to thank Flavio, the Italian PR for Padmate, for providing a unit so that I could test the product. More information is available on Moldac website. As of publication, PaMu Scroll’s price is $79, with a projected raise to $149 in the future.

Packaging & Accessories

The PaMu Scroll come in a simple cardboard box that holds the earpieces, the pleather-clad case (which doubles as a charging cradle), three pairs of silicone eartips and a USB to micro-USB cable, together with an instruction manual in what seems like English, Chinese (traditional and simplified) and Korean. I may be mistaken with the two Chinese languages, though – I can’t speak either of them, so please bear with a possible mistake. The lens is not included!
